model contest...a new record...in futility?

#1 Post by raydrz »

ok there were over 600 entries and the shortest damn award ceremony ever...lotsa disappointed contestants...myself included...of 20 entries i got one whole merit...and that wasn't even what i thought was my 'best'...

all-in-all, there were a lot of super cool entries that didn't even score a merit...

aside from a couple "automatics", the contest was a real 'head-scratcher'... :?

congrats to winning CHers i noticed:
david dill-LOTS of AWARDS...nice going!
kenny 'enrique' caruso-for his vlad GRAIL
ant hughes...sorry i didn't get to meet you, mate
bilal el-amin
dennis reid
sorry if i missed anyone

what did yall think?????

EDIT: add'l CH award winners...
julia ambrose X 2...
rusty "my favorite name ever" nail X 3...

More like the other way around: judges are getting too picky.

Gotta agree, Kenny's Vlad was one very sweet buildup. Glad they recognized him.
Yea, the contest was indeed packed with quality work, just amazing stuff.

Dave Hodge seemed tired this year? Maybe overwhelmed?

Yeah I know what you mean, the judging was pretty harsh, as usual, but I think that is part of why I show up. But I can't complain I got 3 merits and a bronze, and more important I had lots of really good comments about my work, so its all good. :D
There are images I need to complete my own reality

May you always be happy............and your enemies know it.

I got 3 bronzes and 2 merits so I can't complain. My wife told me she saw lots of people pass my stuff giving it tons of praise so that's the important thing.

My thoughts exactly.

I entered 8 and got nothing. [shrug]
I figured it was inevitable.
As the contest grows, they are going to have to tighten up the judging, or they are going to be handing out awards like candy.
When I get something, I want it to mean something.
I want to have to work hard to earn it.

I don't do the contest looking to win anyway.
For me the contest is a motivational tool to get me to finish kits.
It gives me a goal, and a deadline to meet.
And it is a means to share my hobby with others. So they can see the kits, and my work up close, and in person.
Any award is just icing on the cake in my book.

Thanks for the nod John - I was really chuffed to score the 2 Bronzes and a Silver for the 3 items I brought - I really failed in the Meet the clubhouse stakes though, and totally missed the photo. Evenings were pretty tough cos I was still jet lagged....

We're now bumming around the Michigan coast for a week or so whilst trying to work out how to get everything we bought into the cases!

I got a merit and I'm happy with that but I think the more entries in the contest the more everyone will have to make sure their stuff is top notch.there was alot of great stuff in the contest this year so to everyone who entered great work.

The real question becomes this:

"Are you happy with your work, and did you enjoy doing it?"

If you can answer "yes" to either or both of those, then you've already won! Everything after that is just icing on the cake...(If you ask me anyhow)

Well said Bubba and Tay.

The judging by necessity has to be tough. You have a ton of entries, and only so many awards, so everything tightens up a bit. I used to bounce my work against someone who scored a higher award to see what I could do better. It wasn't for the award, but to improve.

Remember, even us old salts can learn new things. :D I do allll the time!

I'm happy with the four merits I received, but I am also a little confused because one of those was for what I considered one of my weakest entries while what I thought were my two strongest entries received nothing. Something similar happened last year.
You know it's not a good day when it starts out with, "Hey boss, we've got a weird one for you."
