I'm with you Dave. :thumb2:
Chiller is the only place locally for us Jerseyans to showcase our efforts and I will be most sad if we lose it.
I will be there on Saturday with a few entries and I can only hope that it won't be the last time.
Looking forward to seeing you again Dave, and the rest o' the Chiller gang! :D
Let's keep this going folks!

What's all this chatter about "keeping it alive"? Is there a possibility Kevin will discontinue the October Model Contest? That would really suck. I was bummed when the Spring contest got canned. I hope he keeps the fall one going. After all, it is the "Chiller Toy, MODEL & Film Expo". If that goes, then there's not much MODEL left.

I'll be there and will be bringing a couple of entries.

If the turn out for the model contest doesn't improve, this Oct's will be the Last one!

The number of entries has dwindled each year. As Ed stated, the room that the model contest ties up for two days could be put to further use and more revenue if they had guests or vendors in there for three days running.
It's a damn shame :( but I can understand the reasoning behind it, it is after all a business.

It's still a great place for picking up newly released kits and wandering across the occassional grail!
Plus it's an opportunity to meet kit producers, sculptors and other members of the hobby we know through the Clubhouse:D

I run the model and art contest and have done so for over 8 years. I stopped having the spring one in the hopes that having only 1 contest a year would increase the number of entries seeing that all a person would have to do is build 1 model a year. That didn't work and all I got was excuses. Excuses mean NADA. If the entries don't increase there will be no more contest at Chiller and everyone can take a trip out to Louisville and enter in the WF contest or whichever IMPS contest in the area the modeler lives in.

30 entries for a contest that gives out a kit to each winner in the catagory along with certs and plaques PLUS 100% of the monies from the entry fees goes to the favorite kit chosen by the show promotor...well not much more we can do to get the people to enter.

Once the contest goes the way of the Dodo, don't complain to the convention, complain to all the modelers who make excuses for not entering or just don't give a crap about it!

I see the logic in cutting it down to only one show a year to increase entries - good idea, too bad it didn't work. I was still bummed. Maybe this thread will get people to react now that they know it's on the line.

Entering at WF is fine - if you can get there. I've been the last 8 or 9 years.

Entering at IPMS shows is okay but they clump everything into one catagory. I don't know if you have ever been to one Dice, but they would take almost every entry you would normally have at a Chiller show, all catagories, and put them all under one heading - FIGURES: SCI-FI & FANTASY, no HORROR, nothing. They really cater to the armor, plane and car crowds. Us poor monster builders are herded into a group over in the corner like red-headed step-children. :-({|= (Do I sound pitiful enough?)

Bottom line - we need the Chiller show. We need judges that know what the kits are when they see them. We need a show that likes what we like and doesn't treat it like an afterthought. Even if it's not a competition, then just to see some good models in a genre that gets overlooked. If it would help, keep the cash from the entries to offset the cost - don't give it away as an award. I think most of us would go with that - if it meant not having the show at all. (Any feedback on this might help)

Anyway, it's your gig - you know what you have to do. I just hope the modelers will step up and make the decision for you.

That is probably the BEST quote ever made regarding this situation! Thank you!

As for the IPMS, I've never been to one and don't know how they run the contest, all I was doing by mentioning it is showing that our options as modelers are Extremely limited. WF by and large, as I have always said, is the Premiere model contest in the USA IMHO. I've been a vendor at WF for 10 out if the last 12 years and even won a few awards at the WF contest myself  But it's a shame that modelers in the NorthEast, where I have to say we have a HUGE number of modelers located, keep ignoring Chiller. But I can't hold a gun to anyone's head. Either they support one of the 2 conventions in the USA that actually have GK dealers and a contest or they don't.

Just ordered my ticket for Saturday show and will be bringing a kit to enter. I know I won't win anything but just wanted to show support. My first contest entry so I hope they'll take it easy on me.

Dice, I agree - the options are EXTREMELY limited. That's why I would hate to see us loose this one. Just out of curiosity, what would be an accepatble number of entries to keep us running?

I'm bringing at least two and with Lenny's we have three. Sounds like Shawn is good for a couple more and Shane has one. So we're up to six so far. Anyone else know what or how many they're bringing? Speak up!

I think entries are accepted until 12 or 1. The awards are given out around 5pm. Diceman would be the one to ask for sure.
