Predator: Killer of Killers

#1 Post by Squidy53 »

The latest installment in the Predator franchise and according to the ratings it may be the best feature yet. It's available in the US on Hulu and internationally on Disney+.

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who previously directed 'Prey', 'Killer' is a trilogy of three connected animated episodes, each a battle with a predator and then ending with a fourth segement that brings it all together.

The animation is often terrific with the medieval Japanese segment being the standout for me. There is a cross franchise casting connection here and a reference to 'Prey'. Later in the year is another Trachtenberg Predator feature being released, 'Badlands.' Anyhow well worth a look.

I watched this last night and the Viking and Samurai episodes were good - the Samurai story was very compelling.

But - and I can't believe I'm saying this about an animated sci/fi fantasy movie - the WWII sequence was laughably unbelievable in places.

I'll go along with what the story tellers are putting out most times, including characters falling from great heights and dusting themselves off to get back in the fight. But when the pilot of a hunk-a-junk Corsair (or Avenger, I'm not sure which) decides to get out of the cockpit at altitude and at speed to fix a problem... well, I may as well be watching Wacky Racers. That sequence alone pulled me out of the story.

Setting that aside, the ending looked like it was going somewhere good but in the final 15-20 seconds the story took a left turn and I was completely disappointed....

Can't agree here scuzz. The Predator franchise was screwed well before now. Were 'Predator 2', 'Alien vs. Predator', 'Requiem' and 'The Predator' that great? 'Predators' was the exception and 'Prey' was a definitely a step in the right direction.

Me too - absolutely nothing wrong with P2. After that, they messed with the design too badly

Fair enough, though I don't think it changes my argument. :)

Agreed. Too bad Arnie never got involved with any of the sequels - he's too old now ...

At least they weren't CGI.. I pretend these don't exist.. like the horrible reboot or continuation of the X-files...

I like all the Predator films. Buy, much like any franchise with sequels, I like the first the best. "Get to the choppa!"

Sure, Predator: Killer of Killers is a computer animated feature (like Pixar’s Soul, Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, or Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio) but Prey used a practical suit including animatronics and CGI enhancements in the same way the original Predator used a practical suit with optical effect enhancements.

I get that. I guess I'm aware but not too concerned about adherence to Predator lore/canon.
