The Swan (sculpted by pkking)

#1 Post by sivousplay »

My latest is a gorgeous sculpt from pkking called The Swan; those of you who follow pk may have seen the pre-painted statue of this sculpt he is offering. Well, when he first sculpted this marvelous piece, 10 garage kits were made and I was lucky enough to get #1!!! Woot!! Given my love for painting feathers and the fairer sex, this kit is just about perfect for me.

I decided to build a special backdrop for her based on some of the waterfalls I've photographed in my home state of Oregon. The base was constructed out of insulating foam covered in Apoxie Sculpt. The moss is several colors of Woodland Scenics foliage; the fauna are various bits and pieces from the flower decorating section at my local Michaels (I deconstructed a bunch of larger plants to get the pieces I wanted and then painted them to look like an Oregon rain forest). The pond is clear resin; the waterfalls are Woodland Scenics Water Effects over plastic wrap; the beautifully, aged "wooden" frame is a cheap, white plastic shadow box that I picked up at my local Michaels (for $4) and painted to look like wood grain :) In addition to all of the wonderful details on the main figure, the kit came with all of the lily pads and lotus blossoms you see floating in the pond. Also, the cute little frog you can see and a toad came with the kit as well.

I hope you like her. The project was a blast. If you would like to see more pictures, please visit my site: http://sivousplay.net/html/swan.html

Cheers,
jim

I know what you mean Stu ... I had been shot down for a number of his other sculpts too (I would have killed for the sculpt he did based on the image to the left)

Absolutely Jim, asked him myself about that one and I know someone else who contacted him about a commission of something very similar bit unfortunately no progress.

I will be starting on his Azure dragon soon though so can't complain.....

Beautiful work, Jim! You're so lucky to have gotten your hands on a kit of this sculpt! But you did such a great job, the kit went to the right person. :)

Seeing the first image I was like "Gee, that looks like something Jim would do..."
