I started work on a Kelvin kit-bash from the recent Trek film. I kit-bashed the saucer and neck from a 1/1000th scale refit model onto the engine section from a re-popped TOS Enterprise.
I also used the secondary hull from the 1/1000 refit and mounted it to the top of the saucer with three square tubes. I filled in the holes on the top with Apoxie putty.
I've been thinking about how to build this sucker since I first saw it in the movie. When they released the 1/1000th kit, I bought it just to bash it with the engine section. Seems like I never build anything out of the box anymore.
It may not wind up looking exactly like the big-screen Kelvin, but I'm going to try and get it as close as I can.
Got some work done on this, recently. Removed the standard bridge and added a "spine" section that joins the center superstructure to the neck. I filled in all of the gaps with Apoxie putty.
I tried hiding the greeblie on the saucer with a trigular pattern made of Apoxie. Looks like I've have to sand down the edges of the putty structure to make this more flat and even all around.
Yeah, I was thinking about doing that, Steven. That'll work better than trying to sand the putty to look like a hard surface. I have some really thin styrene sheets on hand. I'll give that a shot.
Well, I started covering the upper neck with really thin sheets of styrene, and it's shaping up nicely. I also removed the putty sections on the sides and will replace them with more styrene sheets. The putty just wasn't working out; I couldn't get the sharp edges that I wanted from it.
