American Werewolf in London bust

#1 Post by csoldier »

Finally finished this huge beast. Eyes are glass replacements which look a damn sight better than any hand-painted attempt that I would be capable of.

Excellent sculpt as ever from Darren Harvey DFX Studio, released by Killer Kits. I was originally going to add the severed hand to a base, but I decided in the end to bin the idea.

Due to the large size I painted it using tester pots of paint from DIY store (the red gore around his mouth has come out a bit wishy-washy in the photo)

May I be the first to commend your beautiful work Dave! The glass eyes certainly bring it to life,
looking suitably aggressive with that wonderful set of teeth, blood and saliva too!

I'm sorry to say I have zero kits in my collection based on this incredible, ground breaking film,
most of the ones I like are either too big for the shelf or AOP! I've been looking for the Kessler wolf by Bill Weiger
and originally released by Fade to Black. A similar pose to KK's full figure wolf, only not so demanding on space.
Got some leads, but no results as yet :(

Cheers,
Paul

Many thanks Paul, glad you like it, certainly a challenge painting these big 'uns  . Have you tried Killer Kits to see if this one is still available?

It's not a bad size, 1/6th approx and measures about 10" approx.

Hi Dave,

Wow, not seen that one before! Is that your build? Looks very nice, have you got any more pics from other angles?
There was also a classic mid change study, possibly from back in the 90's, David Naughton on his knees, screaming and hands stretching?
Might have been Neil Simms? I remember sitting in the cinema and watching it on its first release, completely blew me away :D

Cheers of now,
Paul

That looks great.
And yeah, those glass eyes really give it some life.

Hi Paul, I think I may have posted these before, but yes, it's one of mine and although technically the AWIL, I have left it as a more generic werewolf. I vaguely remember the one you mention (can't identify the sculptor), and there was also a smaller version of the transformation with David Kessler on his back, propped up on his arms. I think that was more of a 1/8th scale.

Apologies for the delay in replying, very grateful for you taking the time to add the extra pics! Superb result all round, the werewolf is totally badass and the diorama sets it off perfectly.

Do you know who sculpted the beast? Joe Bailey perhaps? I've just checked my copy of the UKGK book and the iconic kneeling pose of David mid change was sculpted by Neil Simms for Morbid Models way back in the 90s I believe!

All the best,
Paul

Hi Paul, this was a Lee Ames sculpt although I initially thought it was Joe Bailey (given the rendering of the fur), but David Nicholson confirmed that it was Lee). It did come with a fairly plain base of its own, but I recycled an old one :)

Great work Dave as always!
The mid-transform kit was also by Lee Ames - I bought one back in the 90's but it suffered terribly from resin weep so in the end Lee sent me a different kit (Kane & facehugger!) and I junked it. Ironically I came across the instructions last week looking for something else...
I've also got that KK werewolf in a half built state. The molds were pretty shot and it needed a lot of rebuilding to make presentable. It also weighs a _ton_!
