1/24 scale portrait painter wanted for production run

#1 Post by ungawa222 »

Hello All,

Looking to commission someone to partially paint a small (10 – 12 pieces) production run of 1/24 scale (approx. 3.5” tall) figures. Figures are cast in hard rubber (think of the old M.U.S.C.L.E. mini-figures), produced here in Vermont. The figure you would be painting is a 4-armed humanoid alien with the head of Shemp Howard. The portrait is very realistically sculpted, but is sized at a somewhat comically larger proportion to the rest of the body. You would only be responsible for the portrait, the hair, and the uncovered skin areas (arms and legs)- I will be handling the clothes and other details once the figures are returned to me.

Looking for a painter who enjoys/is talented in painting lifelike portraits at this scale, and who is able to work quickly- we will have a two-week window in February to get these done. Airbrush will be necessary at least for basecoating the flesh tone before any detail brushwork, to give the rubber some tooth for painting. (We tried using a clear lacquer to “prime” these guys for painting- worked well, until you bent the limbs of the figure (we’re encouraging such play, with our choice of material)- then the finish developed a frosted look.)

If all goes well with this run, it’s highly likely we’ll engage you again for future editions (Shemp is part of a three-figure set- I am handling painting on the other two figures).

Thank you for reading- if this interests you, please get in touch via PM- I will share pics and more details on the project, and we’ll take it from there!

Cheers,
Mike
