WIP - Kyle Reese

#1 Post by KathyD »

Some pics of one of my current works in progress. The fantastic bust of Kyle Reese from AlanEye, one of my Christmas presents.

Before & after of seam across hair - has taken a few weeks of picking and scraping before I was happy with it

Knowing nothing about guns, not sure what this bit is, but wasn't able to sand smooth, so Ant milled it out for me (before & after/during)

I've attached a magnet to the gun to hold it in place but make it easily removable for travel to shows - seems to have worked, some pics of the whole kit so far (hand is just "clipped" on, will need to be painted before attaching)

I'm enjoying working on this kit, its fantastic. Now looking forward to painting :)

Kathy,

Looking good so far.
Seams in the hair are always tough but you've cleaned it up very nicely.
Once you have the paint on only you will know where it was.

Ooooo, I've been waiting for and looking forward to your WIP, Kathy. The rectangular cut out is the ejection port for the spent cartridges. They are often on the side, but with the Ithaca 37 it is on the underside. I couldn't find any photos looking directly into it so I wasn't sure if there was a door deeper inside, or if you could see a cartridge, or what. Nice work on cleaning it up by Ant. Great idea using magnets to allow it to be removed... as you can see the tab and the slot don't really fit well, I dunno why. Looking forward to seeing the progression.

I think it would have glued on ok, but I wanted it to be removable for ease of transport as I plan to take Kyle to at least two shows this year...

Here you go - I dremmelled and drilled out the socket a bit to fit the magnet, then cut a notch in the tab to match. Almost stuck the magnet in the tab the wrong way up, but noticed just in time... Magnets are stuck down with epoxy, bit of a mess but will be covered up anyway

Started painting this weekend, base skintone and some shading

I've started planning the stripes for the t-shirt, but need to get more reference for hair colour and coat I think

Looking good, Kathy. If you need any reference photos give me a shout. It was one of the Tamiya greys that I think I used. Maybe neutral grey.

T-shirt is done - possibly, stripes look a little stark so may try to soften a bit.
Also painted his hair and coat - first two pics after initial coat, second after some drybrushing and washing.

I've done a bit more on the coat and blocked in the gun but no pics of those bits...

Thank you - if you have any reference pics of eye colour, would love to see them. Would also like some tips on stubble if anyone has any..

Lookin good, Kathy. Best pic I can find from my screen grabs from the new blu-ray showing his eyes is this. I think I did mine grey, but there could be a bit of brown in there.

Image

For stubble, might sound crazy, but lightly airbrush green, then I lightly painted in some longer bristles with Tamiya smoke, but a well thinned black or brown should do.

I won't have any opportunity to do any more this week, so you'll have to wait :) I did think of taking it as a work in progress but I think the display will be full enough anyway
