Re: Tinting your primer
One of the GK primers is clear which will come in very handy for priming clear resin parts. I thought I might have to order it but it seems I already have it. I completely forgot about it. The kit that I primed black is Earthbound Hideous Sun Demon big head. The real mask was a light green color and...

Re: painting eyes
Something that I used once for doing the circle in the eye was a cheap paintbrush with the bristles removed. The circle of the shaft holding the bristles was just the right size. I dipped it in a bit of paint and touched it on the model's eyeballs. Keep in mind that showing the full circle in the ey...

Re: Tinting your primer
I popped by an auto parts shop and found black alkyd primer, so I'll probably end up using that on this one because I wanted to start with black. I always spray spraycan primers outside the house, but lately it's been so hot that I have to change clothes after I go out in the afternoons because I'm ...

Re: Tinting your primer
At the moment I'm trying to do this kit without using lacquer and enamel. I have the Garage Kit Colors primer which I think uses an acrylic base. I'm assuming the adhesion will be good as it's being sold as a primer for kits. I want to get away from noxious fumes as much as possible, so I want to gi...

Tinting your primer
I'm going to be using Garage Kits Colors primer on my next kit. I was wondering can the primer be tinted using airbrush paint (from Garage Kits as well) or will this make the primer weaker? I want a shade close to black but the closest one I have at the moment is light grey. By using the primer for ...

cleaning airbrushes
I was wondering how often you guys clean your airbrushes. Once after each session or do you have to do it during your session as well, if it's a long session? I hate taking my airbrush apart. Many years ago I took an airbrush class and was always lazy about removing the needle and cleaning it. I usu...

Re: Best putty for filling in holes?
My 2 part Aves putty went bad and I have to get something new for filling in holes like where reinforcement rods are put into the models. What's your favorite putty for such work? Before Aves became so popular in this hobby, the putty of choice was Magic Sculpt. It's widely used in taxidermy. It's ...

I don't need a nameplate but I'm curious as to what RPF is.

Re: Pastels - Which ones do I need?
Bought these: http://www.deserres.ca/en-ca/search/mungyo-dry-pastel-square-48-colors/34406/ Tried sealing it with Testors Dellcote and Future. Those are really cheap quality pastels. I wonder if you would have had different results with good pastels. You can try buying a single stick of a good qual...

Re: Pastels - Which ones do I need?
Seems like I bought expensive chalks and nothing else. All my work gets "erased". Whether I mist it with Dullcoat or Future there are no highlights and no colors. Thought maybe it was my grey on black not coming out enough but tried a purple on black and poof, the minute I hit it with any...

Wow! the Rembrandt deal was a steal!BlueRaven wrote:I think Dullcote is supposed to be the best. It is irritating that it is only offered in those small expensive cans.
I found a huge box of used Rembrandt Soft Pastels on eBay. 90 individual colors, for only $60.

Re: Pastels - Which ones do I need?
Just darkening by adding black or lightening by adding white can be boring. Try other light or dark colors to do the darkening or lightening. I use Rembrandts because they are high quality and I draw with them sometimes as well. Pan Pastels are pretty interesting. They might be fun to try someday. I...

Re: Pastels - Which ones do I need?
Thanks for all the info guys. Didn't want to buy the really expensive and didn't trust the really cheap. Went with something in the middle to try them out and see what I got myself into. Hopefully it's opened up a whole new world for me :) I'm assuming we use Pastels just to darken, shade and NOT t...
