It looks like the Big G is back as we know and love him though I'd still like to know where the Shin Godzilla concept may have gone.

So is Godzilla Minus One, set-in post-war Japan the beginning of a new timeline?

Awesome.
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?

I just wish I could get excited about this. But since the last theater in the entire county closed a couple months ago, I don't really have any movie going options anymore.
Unless I feel like driving 40+ miles just to get to a theater.

Now that sucks. If you saw what the movie theater prices have gone up to these days, you might say good riddance.

Happily, a good 80 inch TV with a good sound system set up can help you to regain much of that theater experience at home.

And the prices for the dang things just keep coming down. That may be a longer term fix. πŸ˜‰

I have to say that trailer does look interesting. 😳

My only question is where are the Americans in all this, if this is happening right after the war ended? After all it would be our A-bombs that presumably woke him up and pissed him off...

... It's the "Godzilla versus the monster of the month" Godzilla movies that I don't have anymore interest in...

No Americans.. if you seen the teaser trailer.. it has macarthur .. sending telegram to japan
Something large and aqautic is heading there way..
And still photo of his back spikes sticking out of the water
Correct the a-bomb made him angry and pissed.

This movie is out now. Just a forewarning if you plan on seeing it... it is in Japanese with subtitles.
Personally, that's how I prefer watching my Godzilla movies. I saw it twice...so far. It's not all out Godzilla destroying stuff all the time.
It has quite a good story to it, and I also thought the acting was very well done. I thought it was a very powerful movie with a lot of emotion.

Trevor, sorry to hear that. Not cool.
I've put off seeing Minus 1 until later this week when a bunch of mates and I are looking forward to geeking out with it at the local.

Vlad, maybe it's my age but I still prefer the cinema experience - maybe it's the sense of occasion. My little city still has a lively cinema culture with options from tiny arthouse and larger community-run and boho cinemas through to the cineplexes that offer a range of prices. Long live movie houses. Beside, home theatre may be "coming down" in price (when a lot of other stuff is going up) but not everyone by any means can afford, or in my case wants, an "80 inch TV".

Cool! Enjoy. I'm pretty sure you will. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts - but no spoilers please! I'm trying to see it as a clean skin. :)

As a lifelong Godzilla fan, what I found most amazing was how fresh the film was but still honoring most of G's traditions. Yes, I think it is the best Godzilla film since the original. A success on every level including the soundtrack.

Since Scuzz started this thread, I will do my review here instead of another thread. We saw it tonight. :drool2:

*NO SPOILERS*, so its "safe" to read on!!! 8)

I just came back from seeing "Godzilla -1". OMG πŸ₯ΉπŸ₯ΉπŸ₯Ή

Best Godzilla movie ever? Without a doubt. 🀩

Best MOVIE of 2023? Without a doubt! πŸ₯³

An INCREDIBLE human story, and two completely unexpected twists at the end, unusual even for a melodrama-laden Japanese film? CHECK!!! 😍

Story line involving old WW2 Navy and Air Force men - Heavy IJN Cruiser Takao, "Miracle Ship" Destroyer Yukikaze + 3 of her sisters, and finally - the eye candy of all eye candy for me - an operational Shinden fighter that looked as real in the air as if it was actually filmed? DOUBLE CHECK!!!! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

A theater-full audience APPLAUDED when the movie ended - and there was not a dry eye in the house!!! πŸ₯°

That's right. A movie that moves you to TEARS more than once - TRIPLE CHECK CHECK!!!

97%/98% Critic/Viewer rating on Rotten Tomatoes - VALIDATED! :D

But don't think of it as a Godzilla movie - because its really not. Big G is almost a sideline to the human plot. Brilliantly acted and filmed, its the most emotion I've felt in a theater in decades. But its only in the theaters in the USA for a few more days. Those of you in Europe may have some more time. This is a film that deserves to be seen on "The Big Screen"!

P.S. Yes, the CGI was absolutely real looking and brilliantly done as well. But, as I've said - this is not really an FX movie - its an incredible, tear-jerking, poignant human story that draws you in with 100% believability! And that, in a "G-film" is - well, UNBELIEVABLE!!! (BUT ITS TRUE!!!)

Trev - You have just TWO more days to see it in Theaters.

DRIVE the 40 miles!!!! It will be the movie experience of the DECADE.

I freaking guarantee it or I will reimburse you for the Gas and Ticket $$$!!! :D
