Edsa - Man, It's been a while. I agree with all you wrote. It reflects Dennis' and Jeremy's sentiments. One of the reasons, I went back to the two week jams is because of the small number of sculpts I was able to generate last year. I'm getting caught up way too much on playing the DC UNiverse online (cause it's free!!) and other stuff. I want to go back getting into sculpting and that is what I am gearing up for.

Although this particular jam is ending tonight, just remember the roll-over jam aspect of this year's jams. You can start sculpting even now and just keep on sculpting and show the results and progress into next week's jams and following jams.

I am not going to be able to finish my sculpt but I should have more to show by this afternoon.

Didn't get far as I'd hoped but here it is. It's a little bit bigger than I wanted but I am liking the stance so far, will have to work on it later.

New Jam topic up in 4 hours. Courtesy of reaching into the dark depths of Dennis' mind.

I've always wanted to participate in one of these. I'm not at liberty to say what this "thing" is, but I felt like sharing in his nearly completed state.

I'll be amused if anyone guesses what he is. Hopefully I can show photos of the finished piece in the coming year. It was really stress releasing to work on him, and I have some other sculpting projects I am fired up to work on now.

Larry - is it a portrait of Dennis after crawling out of the bar in his last bachelor party?
What a great entry! Love the texture you did on it's surface. For some reason it reminds me of that monster in the first Fantastic Four cover. Is it an original idea? love the entrails coming out. Rather than a disemboweled creature, I think it's part of the original design that this creature has those appendages dangling out. I definitely want to see it, once painted and done. Keep us posted when it happens.

BEFORE I crawled into it, you should have seen me the next morning.

Welcome to the Jams Larry. I don't know what it is, other than painful looking. I think it looks like it's been ripped in half. ow.

Commision piece?

I went and used a half-baked MightyPutty knock off to start my sculpt armature. Uhhh....let's just say that I won't be getting any more of that stuff. Buy cheap and you get what you pay for. Not nearly as far along as I'd hoped, but it's at least a start nontheless.

It was ripped in half. :) Sorry I can't reveal more right now.

I have a kaiju project I hope to start soon, and will jam-i-fy that as appropriate.

I was raking in some topography and leaving streak marks in the clay on that big, fat upper lip on there.

Now all I can see is a handlebar mustache caricature of Paul Sr. from American Chopper/OCC.

Dude! I so see that right now!

Oh it's all just sculpy. I like to shake it up with the color blocks I add for opacity. I had a little blue left over from a project and started with that. Then I made the mistake of going with a chocolate. It was really hard to see how deep I was going because the shadows were so dark as I worked. When I ran out of that, I went back to my old standard of elephant grey. It's my fave and it photographs well. Unfortunately, as you can see, the base I made first is WAY too small.

In case you don't know, those are "the seed people".

Oh sweet! I'm not familiar with the movie, but it looks like it would have definitely been one of those Saturday night popcorn VHS rentals I would have picked up without hesitation back in the day. :D Sort of reminds me of this movie called Jack Frost (not the Michael Keaton version) we rented a couple of times just for the pure ultra-fun, campy seriousness of low budget films. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116671/ Good times, good times.

Judging from the artwork, you've done a great job of capturing the creatures likenesseseseses. What was the inspiration to sculpt these particular Things?

You are exactly right. I saw that poster in the video store and HAD to rent the vhs back in the day. My brother and I rented it often. He wanted a couple figures from the movie. I recently bought the poster off ebay. the flying guy goes on an acrylic rod that goes into the stump at an angle. Unfortunately I started with the base and it's way too small, so I'll have to redo that.
You can watch the movie here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIDk6...eature=related it's pure crap. Which means it's something we grams love. :)

I'll have to put it out there, see if people want me to kit them.
