Re: Jam #98 Say What?!?! SUPER VILLAINS!!!!!
Tim, a Red Hulk would be cool. The Son of Hulk (Skaar) has slightly different proportions. Imagine Conan if it was played by a HULK. HULK and Red HULK have gigantic hands and forearms. Their backs and shoulders are ridiculously huge. We wouldn't be doing the same figures. Give it a try. Big guys are fun to sculpt (even if they eat up a lot of material). I'm going to try an detail the hell out of this piece. I want to use it as another portfolio piece. So I may not finish in time for the end of the JAM (although, you know me - I don't like missing deadlines).
Cheers!!

Thanks, guys! I find myself doing the portrait either ahead of time or separate from the piece. Makes it easier to get the stuff down. I should have more update by tonight. Definitely will finish this piece.
Alfred - Can't wait to see skaar. Even if you don't finish by deadline don't forget to show us some WiPs, don't make me beg.
Tim - I thought you may be referring to Ol' Frank. You do have a soft heart for the "Punisher"
Rite - Loving the progress pics you've got going. I should try that method of blocking in of muscle groups. I get so impatient sometimes.
Dennis - Which Version of Mays are we talking about here? Hey, Dennis! **snicker**Somebody said "boobs"

Even OxyClean! won't take it off!!!!!
I grew in a beard as much as I could and it was still no match the the Mays' Ultra-Beard, so I got some black Halloween make up paint and filled it in reeeeaaaal good.
OF COURSE, YOU HAVE TO TALK LIKE THIS THE WHOLE TIME TO MAKE THE ILLUSION COMPLETE!

So The top half is almost done. hopefully, I pulled off the tunic and it's folds. The outstretched hand may seem a bit short but It's just the angle of the pic....Can't decide if I should work on it some more or watch t.v. or sumthin'

Re: Jam #98 Say What?!?! SUPER VILLAINS!!!!!
That Doom is looking real nice Jr. Don't worry, I'll throw up some in progress shots soon (wow, that actually sounds gross instead of helpful). He's got a head now, so I won't feel so bad about posting pics.
Tim, as far as head ratio, I'd say a good 10 head high figure should do the trick. I haven't checked on Skaar, I just followed the cover image, but if I had to guess, I'd say he's around 9-10 heads. I'll check later today when I get into the studio.

Re: Jam #98 Say What?!?! SUPER VILLAINS!!!!!
thanks Alfred!
i'll have to sit down this wek and try drawing it. i actually thought he might be like 6 heads as in the ' How to Draw Marvel' book. what size/scale is your sculpt then mate?
i have been looking at Bowen's site and the'small' Hulks are 12-15 inches so i guess a 1/4 scale one would be huge, about 27 inches.
In the mean time, did some gesture sculpts today with Castilene.
all the best Alfred (and Jammers) --- tim

Re: Jam #98 Say What?!?! SUPER VILLAINS!!!!!
Thanks Tim. Just trying to get the rounded part of the armor as smooth as I can. Still the armbands are still hard to get precise and clean.
Semoet - Thanks, man. You think the body is too narrow? Initially I had carved the armor underneath but I thought it would look too bulky once I start adding in the cloth wrinkles. So I started to just carve the cloth out of the armor and it eventually diminished the size of the chest.
Alfred - Thanks, Alfred. Cloth is one of the hardest thing for me to do. I figured keeping the edges crisp would make it look better.

Re: Jam #98 Say What?!?! SUPER VILLAINS!!!!!
armor in sculpey jnr ,
will be easier once you've baked the rest of the piece. then you can carve and sand till its how ya want it. from my miniature days, the best rivet method is to drill holes with a pin vice and a 1m bit then insert wire and snip. once safely glued, grind the ends.there is a step 2 but step 1 oughta drive you nuts!!

Re: Jam #98 Say What?!?! SUPER VILLAINS!!!!!
Tim, the Skaar figure would be 12" if he was standing straight. He measures about 10" or so hunched the way he is. I don't have the How to Draw Marvel book, so i don't know how they explain his proportions, but generally, when you want to make a guy look huge, you make his head smaller. I know he's a pretty squat character, because of his bulk, but in order to push the illusion of him being big (without any reference next to him), his body usually has to be around 9-10 head high. I did the math just now and my sculpt is 9.5 heads high (12" body - 1.25" head). I was going to make him a proper 1:6 scale, but that would've made him about 16" tall and that's just too huge. Sideshow had a MASSIVE Hulk at their booth this year. That guy was like 20-24" tall - so you can imagine how big around he was. His head was also very small, I'd say about 12 heads high by comparison. Made his body look huge. I think my guys will end up being 1:8 scale (which is the DC size - Bowen's are about 1:7).
Cheers!!

Re: Jam #98 Say What?!?! SUPER VILLAINS!!!!!
Hey, no problem, Semoet. I love feedback. Actually, the belt is gonna be massive and will add more to his waist. I am just keeping that space empty for now and marking where I have it planned.
Thanks, Limion.
I'm gonna try to get as much done by tonight.
Junior
