Re: Jam # 97 A Girl and her Monster.
Thanks. The bike has been a fun and miserable journey and I should be able to complete it in 2011.
Wife #1 never allowed hobbies.
Wife #2 allowed them as long as they did not involve women. Sculpting animals and monsters are ok.
Wife #3 (current) allows them and basically says what ever makes me happy. Doesn't care if I want to play WOW or paint and sculpt pin-up. She doesn't even mind my "reference" materials.
Like I said no excuses. Lack of talent can be made up for with hard work and perseverance, as long as I don't give up my day job.
Pictures of my jam tomorrow or else!

Nice Mancave, there. Pretty clean, too.
Saw a commercial about those speed bikes while watching the Tour. The idea scares the bejeezus out of me.

darkeye - never looked at it that way
amusedjester - that is the world record holder Sam. He has been the fastest for several years.
You have 5 miles of flat newly paved road to get up to speed. You can have a small push in the beginning to get going. The chase car has to stay a good bit away so nobody can claim an air push. At the end of the 5 miles are two tapes. They are 600 feet apart and when your tires cross them they record the time and that is your official speed.
Sams bike is like two halves of an airplane wing. When he falls over it has been know to leave the ground
One rider goes head first on his back and drives via mirror. - thats insane.
I stopped my attempt for this year. These things take up a lot of time and most of my money. I have only made the cross country trip once.

I hope I have enough time to finish this guy. I haven't even started on the girl yet. I am hoping the next leg will be done tomorrow, then the chest and back, the arms and head and do the girl on the last two days. Fingers crossed.

Sounds like you hit gold with wife 3 therescubasteve wrote:Ah but the bike is a sculpting subject. It is sculpted out of foam and then carbon fiber cloth is applied to make a machine to attempt a world speed record. Check out the website and click on the 81mph sign. You lay down on the bike and are incased in a rocket type shell. Please note that I said attempt to break a world record. The worlds fastest is designed and built by a sculptor which is cool.

The only way I would ever have a Halo Legendary is if I made it. Sadly every sculpt I did prior to October 2005 was destroyed by angry ex-wife #2. On my shelf you see only three recent pieces. Pica-Kill, Murkgill Warrior, and Frank the Bunny. The Sorayama poster was in storage for three years because she felt threatened by it. Wife #3 loves it and wants me to do paintings like that.
Now ask me how far I got on my Jam Piece. No where, nada, zip, my Aves came in and I made a flag, watched Percy Jackson played three games of pool and then watched Ultimate Car Build Off.
No More excuses - ha I can find plenty of them.

Re: Jam # 97 A Girl and her Monster.
Amusedjester - That is wicked! Also what a great idea for the jam. Pan's Labyrinth never even crossed my mind. Duh little girl and great creatures.
Imaginos- Yea I have a good one. The first one was good, just not good for me. Second one I want to forget all together.
So I started last night. However as Jedideni says if there are "no pictures it didn't happen". My internet is down at the house and I would rather not sculpt pics from the office. So I am taking tomorrow off (day job of making maps)to meet with the cable guy. I have a new computer, new router and $130 a month and all I get is a blinking light. That is not right!
This also gives me most of the day to sculpt.

Jr., I haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth, but that is a wicked cool sculpt! (and tell that Superman I said that he's such a glory hound, always sneeking into your other sculpts' pictures like that
)

Re: Jam # 97 A Girl and her Monster.
Scubasteve - When I started the Jam, I was thinking of Erick's long time thread but then the movie just popped in my head and this distinct image of the Faun and the girl. I will get to the girl if only a really rough form just to get the whole idea in.
**I once went into a customer's house and he pointed at his blinking modem but I found out that his router was unplugged.
If tech support haven't suggested it yet, try unplugging (power) the modem and router. Then turn the modem on, wait a minute. Turn on the router, wait a minute and turn on your computer. This is the simplest method of reacquiring IPs. Anything after that is just more troubleshooting. goodluck.

All he needs is a hat and a cane.

Re: Jam # 97 A Girl and her Monster.
I unplug and replug several times a day. We have had issues before but things have gotten really bad. I think the modem surfboard has issues. My buddy says the cable guy told him it was all Lynksys fault and was telling him to buy a new router. I think it is an unrelated to my house but I am the only one around that still has cable. The neighbors went to Dish. The internet goes out constantly plus when watching a movie it will have garbaled scenes.
Jedideni - $110 is extended basic, and internet, plus another $20 for renting about 1 - 2 movies a week. Last week was Clash of the Titans and Percy Jackson, Week before was Kick A$$. Movies I had seen in the theater but only willing to pay $3.99 to see again.
Also see Pan's Labyrinth. Visuals are great! Story is not for everybody. The "food hand eyeball" creature is my fav! Love to do a sculpt of him and also Death from Hellboy 2. I will put that on my "To do list"

So many replies so little time
On the foam body for the bike.... I remember reading something semi recently about a guy who basically built himself a "sports car" by taking an old junker car and rebuilding the whole body out of that spray foam and alot of machining/sanding to get the "sports car" body shape, then he had it painted up and you can't tell it's not the real sports car, but man driving around in a car body made of foam would just weird me out. Talk about a coffin on wheels.
On Pan... Loved the movie, I had the pleasure of seeing it locally in the theaters when I lived in north county san diego in a good theater house. Such an excellent movie! The scene with the mandrake root was pretty cool too
Map making for a living...man that sounds interesting. Probably boring as hell but still sounds interesting
. Far better then unemployed lol.
Blinking lights...there are 4 lights!...I wonder if the network card at the ISP's place of business is what's causing your problem. I remember when I was on cox cable many many many moons ago we had a network card go out on the ISP's end and it took out our cable and 3 other people who were hooked into the same card. Took them half a day to get a technician down to their server farm to pull it and put in a new one.

Scubasteve - if it's that bad that it actually affects the video signal it is the signal strength that is bad and not the equipment. If the signal is good from the street it would be the cable wiring from the street/pole or house wiring. I hope you got a good cable guy to fix your problems.
Imaginos - It's on Netflix so I am just watching it in the background.
Tim - The faun is 6 inches high. Supes is 13 inches high. I've got the mold material. I plan on casting the face in wax, do more work, remove the hair, remold and cast in silicone. I am going to try punching hair for the first time.

Re: Jam # 97 A Girl and her Monster.
wow, good luck with that Jnr. you'll need lots of patience for that i reckon. i molded the face from my Femme study and added it to the Vampi body. it was as Jon Allard said; the cheeks sucked in so it was a good job i left some extra in the face!!! all i used was Sil-putty but its good stuff.
i am up early and may take a ride to Tiranti's to get some mold supplies myself.
all the best Jnr == tim

As Kool-Aid would say..."OH YEAH" Internet is back and it screams compared to the old set up. There were problems in the wires and problems in the modem. All should be fixed.
NOW - Back to the Jam.
It is 2025 and Lord Montgomery's wife has been killed by her own bodyguard. Monty decided that he would not let his daughter fall to the same fate. He took her favorite toy as a child and turned it into a protector. When Monty was killed by a street thug, Katrina decided to take her bodyguard and fight crime. I give you......R.B.B. (Robot Bear Bodyguard)
Not finished yet. Bear got resized today.

Punish-bear!! Love it. I like that FAO schwarz bear look, distinctive.
On an off-topic note, I am beginning to come to terms with working with wax. I was trying to cast in wax to get more details in but I was rushing things too much expecting a lot. Now I realize that when it comes to getting details in, or getting things crisper, patience is the key. Slow and steady and small changes. I hope this time everything works out better for me with wax.

Jr., it's my understanding that when you put the wax on, you want to rip it off as fast as possible. The slower you do it, the more it hurts.
But why are we talking about removing hair from your legs????
