All great ideas for the upcoming jams which I will incorporate. How about the off again on again schedule. Does that help people to breathe easier after a jam, time to unwind? Time to finish? We can do two weeks on and one week off but we just leave the jam on for that third week so we can talk about stuff similar to what the Jam Cafe did or post any updated pics from the jam topic.

I do have a vault somewhere that has all the jam ideas we've pooled together. Mayonaisse jar. Hmmph!

Strange? Wasn't there another post here after Dennis? Or am I losing my mind?

I think you're right Jr. :-k

I think it was Tim's because he had said something about the how the Jam Cafe operates or somesuch, which reminded me that I had previously planned to drop the "Sculpting 101" tag from the jam cafe subject line, but never got around to it. ](*,) #-o

And then I did.

Perhaps we've entered the Bermuda Triangle of Jam Posts and the posts are disappearing like Flight 19 Avengers?

Tim, did you delete it or did it just vanish on its own?

Just curious is all.

How's your sculpt coming along? :D

hey, have you guys checked out the new SyFy series Face Off? It's like Top Chef except it deals with Make-up artists. It looks cool since they start from concept to sculpture to molding and application. Ummm, you guys know what Top Chef is?

No, but YOU do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the missus watches all those cooking shows. Right now she's hooked on that "worst chefs in america"(?) show. :alcoholic:

It looks interesting, but I haven't seen that Sci-Fi show yet. I saw it in the listings and thought it was the Nick Cage/John Travolta movie. (I refuse to call it by their new, ridiculous moniker which is apparently also the spelling of a nickname for syphilis  )

If I had the $$$$, I'd start a network and use their old name SCI-FI and actually put sci-fi programming on. wrasslin'.....ghost "hunters" (heck, I can go jabberwocky hunting in my backyard if I don't have to actually find anything!)....mansquito.... :2guns:

Ooh look! I'm ranting!

no, i binned it. binned a few lately...

nothing on the sculpting so far. decided to put it in the Graveyard for being over sized. when i pick up the clay, it'll be for heads i reckon.
shift work leaves me washed out and lethargic sadly. been snoozing since wednesday. plus the weather has been gray and cold which is no good for the mood.

The Face Off series is an interesting watch, not much for the personality fight offs but I like it when they show the techniques. I don't like the name change, too. But I like some of their programs: Eureka, Warehouse 13, Being HUman (seems interesting) Right now there is a Green Hornet marathon, original Ghost Hunters, and Star Trek TNG re-runs.

Tim - are you using Calipers to maintain the Bowen Scale that you want to emulate? Are Bowen Statues always exactly the same? Aren't they off by a little bit from each other?

I caught a repeat of Face Off late last night.

Pretty cool. 8) I loved seeing how they had the "make up fx studio" areas set up for the artists to work in.

I did some of that back in art school, that was some fun times right there I tell ya. I love the smell of foam latex. Used to be a product called R+D Foam Latex that we used. I kept a piece of it with my left over supplies and today it still smells like it did back then. Weird, ain't I?

Tim, you should see if they offer tours or something. Maybe sneak in as a custodian or a delevery driver.

Well, I stepped away from the RDA sculpt for a while and now looking at it with fresh eyes I know what's wrong with it.

Since the eyes were steel balls set into the skull armature, it's evident that I brought the mouth and nose forward too far. I finally found a small profile pic on google and comparing the side views, I have the chin, mouth and lower half of the nose correct. As a result the upper part of the nose, brows and forehead are too far back in comparison. The brows and eyes are too high making the bridge of his nose too long.

I'm thinking my best bet is to resculpt the eyes/brows since that looks like it would be the least difficult option.

I'll try to make a doohickeypiccy later for y'all to look at so you can see what I'm on about.

D'oh!

Manuel - your skills at doing portraits are definitely getting stronger and stronger. Very recognizable. I love the forehead area. For me I tend to do a poor job on the forehead but yours looks good. Strangely enough my only crit is that maybe the top portion of the bridge of the nose is slightly too narrow. Just by a little, though. Other than that really great job on this and on this jam. :thumb2:

No apparently they dont dig Visitors. if you want to work with them then you gotta submit on line Folio and wait.

look forward to the alterations mate. curious to see what you point out with an image. i tend to suffer with doing a female profile alot where the chin ,mouth and nose protrude and leave a male brow looking recessed or odd. i carved alot of my Tennat attempt from a block of wax tro try countering this annoying trait. worked ok. which reminds me i owe a pic of my now Graveyard sculpt's face !  sorry! was in one this week and so not interested. guess work was a factor...
