The glasses are a maya .obj model that I imported into zbrush. (so is the base mesh of his head)

I build all my base meshes in maya and then import into zbrush, because I can build much more accurate and complex models in maya at this stage, then I just use zbrush for shaping things out.
I'm more a maya modeler than a zbrush sculptor.

Anybody using Blender? I have been asked at the office to work on a mechanical animation and I saw some "sculpting" tools in Blender while I was testing it out.

I haven't used blender for about 10 years, I'm guessing it's come a long way since then ;)

I have not had a chance to look into the freeform "clay" tools but for modeling mechanical elements and the price (FREE) it looks top notch. There are some amazing tutorials out there. I have a animated idea in mind and since this is at the office maybe I can squeeze it in at lunch time.

I have seen some mind blowingly amazing work done with blender.
These days a lot of the tools are on par.

Besides its not the tools its the artist :)

here's another one.
I like to sculpt in what I call 'stages'.

The base mesh, would be stage 1.
refining the bulk and mass would be stage 2.
adding major details and landmarks, stage 3.
refining major details - stage 4.
fine detail pass - stage 5
superfine texturing - stage 6

so here is stage 1 of a new sculpt. it's a bit hard to pick at this low poly level, with no shaping as yet, but see if you can guess this one ;)

this would be about stage 4, refining major details.

Whats a decent fair inexpensive computer that has no problems running Sculptris or Zbrush, mine is always lagging.

My pc is 3 or 4 years old and still copes no probs, so any baseline modern computer should be fine, just make sure you get at least 4gb of ram, the more the better.

Ive got 4 gigs of ram in my laptop and it still can't keep up, maybe it's my processor, it's an intel I3 and I have no idea how that compares to the required pentimento 4.

Just watch your point count, most computers will chug when you get up towards 5mill polys.
