3d print resin

#1 Post by Mitchman »

Hello, can you 3d print a resin kit? I guess anything's possible. Just wondering if a 3d printed kit are worth it? are they the go-to. i just am seeing a guy in Spain selling resin kits that look pretty cool to paint. here is what i am looking at!

Yes you can - I have quite a few printed kits, including these two (there are threads about them on here somewhere, I don't know how to link to them)

Its a different kind of resin - i'll leave that to someone with more experience of printing to explain the differences - and has a different set of build challenges, but still resin

The only appreciable difference that I have seen, is that some printed resin kits tend to be a little more brittle if you drop them then cast resin.

But folks with more experience have said that this is more a factor of the size of the piece and the type of resin used, ie the right kind of resin, cured properly, should not be significantly more brittle than cast resin.

3D printed resin kits are the wave of the now, so pretty much the only cast resin kits that you're going to see from this point on are the old ones being recycled by modelers who will never build them.

I would say, if you like the kit, and the price is right, go for it. :thumb2:

There are some exceptions: To the best of my knowledge, Jeff Yagher has not stepped in to the digital sculpting world yet, so his pieces are still traditionally sculpted and molded. Shane Foulkes' dinos are sculpted and cast traditionally as well. And I can think of two or three others whose pieces are still done the 'old fashioned' way.

But yes, 3D printed kits are everywhere now and are, by and large, much more detailed than traditionally sculpted pieces.

Here's how:
Go to the page you want to link to. You can find your posts by using "Your posts" in the top right-hand area of the CH screen.
When you have the page you want to link to click on the web address in the address window (it should become highlighted to show it's selected) and press CRTL and X (Windows) to copy it to the clipboard. Use whatever key combo you use to copy on a Mac.
Open "Post a reply" in the CH and write the text you want. When ready, put the cursor where you want the address to appear and press CTRL + V to paste it.
It should appear in your text like this: viewtopic.php?p=1473121
Hope this makes sense.

Kathy, maybe you are not aware of the Clubhouse Gallery, all of your kits (that I compiled 129 pics) are here: https://theclubhouse1.net/piwigo/index. ... KXkmhSr2GZ
Been doing this for over 20 years and over 18,000 members pics and still nobody really seems to use it

You are welcome, Kathy. You just keep building them and I will gladly keep preserving them.
