Yeah, 1/10 isn't bad.
Then again, I've got a ton of 1/13 that I need to get done, so 1/10 looks pretty big then.

I've painted 25mm miniatures so 1/10 is no problem!

Cult of Personality wrote:Currently scheduled for second quarter, price TBD, scale 1/10. I am actually excited about this, but I have a VERY limited attention span, so every time I have Frank on the phone, we end up talking about '66 Batman or Batman V Superman or some such and I forget all about the DD...
Tom
I think it is now going to be even later.
Moebius posted on FB "Hopefully this Fall we'll have it on shelves"
So I take that to mean if all goes well it will be 3rd quarter, but I'd hedge my bets and say 4th.

This was a a photo of the Death Dealer prototype I took at the 2014 iHobby Show. Two weeks ago Moebius sent me a catalog spreadsheet showing the Death Dealer available in the 2nd quarter of this year (April. May, June). Then, right after that, they posted their Facebook announcement saying Hopefully this Fall...
I'm confused.

That photo from iHobby wasn't the prototype.
That was an old resin kit, used just to show what kind of product they were working on.
As to the different timelines from 2 weeks ago, until now.
I think something happened to push things back. Not sure if it is in any way related to their extreme unhappiness with the company they are using in China or not.
But in case you weren't aware, apparently the factory made unauthorized changes to one of Moebius's reissues.

So, dealing with that mess might be what pushed expected delivery from 2nd quarter into 3rd quarter.

Does anyone know if this will be a limited release that you have to jump on earlier to get? Or, once it's released, will it be available for awhile?

I'm sure it's gonna be around for a bit.
After paying for the licensing, I don't doubt Frank is going to maximize profits as much as possible.
Heck, I can't even think of any limited distribution kits the Moebius has done.
(other than special versions of regular kits)

Thanks Trevor! I've never bought a Moebius kit before and wasn't sure about how they market their kits.

Maybe this what led to the demise of Monarch dealing with china?
I remember when kits still produced in mid 90's in the USA..
So much a hassle to get produced kits I understand why Pegasus have problems
with china .. I understand why the need to go to china..
But after awhile I wonder if it's really worth it?

It isn't even a matter of 'worth it'.
China is basically the only game in town anymore.
Frank at Moebius has been looking for years to find someone here who could do the work.
It's not even a matter of price, there isn't anyone to do it.
What few places that might actually have the capabilities, won't even consider jobs that small.

What we need is a big lottery winner who's also a modeler who could start up a modeling company to start making these kits, with an entrepreneur sense of business
savvy to do these kits. Karl

Man, if I had won that billion dollar powerball lottery, that's exactly what I would do. Start up a north american based company, bring in as many of the current crop of sculptors and casters that I could get a hold of with fair and equitable pay and contracts, and start producing the best kits around. Do it all on a grand scale to get huge discounts on bulk materials purchases, and pass the savings on to the modelers. And keep master molds in constant production, so 10 years down the road people could still buy old kits just as easily as new kits.
Ahhh, to dream.
