mornin! Just breezed in fron M-Ville.....

... think ya gonna have to carve the armor edges when baked Jnr to sharpen them. some areas look Flumpy but thats common when doing armor in putty.

the clothing looks nice around the chest in to the belt but the skirt is in my view throwing the piece off. could i suggest , carve off the skirt and finish the rest then come back to the skirt and cape. i guess the form and function question is..'what fabric does Doom wear?'
maybe the answer is that fine mesh for support? i used to make templates in paper for things like 'A-Line skirts and robes; same for cloaks.
my best advice on cloaks comes from real life as a Medieval Re-enactor, is that cloaks were traditionally cut from a circle of cloth.
a 'keyhole' shape is then cut out. the 'hole' is where your neck goes and the triangle part of the 'keyhole' shape dictates the 'Swing' of the cloak. the wider the triangle part is cut out, the less the cloak will wrap around yer shoulders....and Doom would not be pleased.. oh No!

Jr., your Doom is most gnarly, but I think Tim is correct about the skirt portion. (Does Doom wear a skirt? Sissy! ) Something seems "off" about it.

And how in the world are you going to attach hands to your sculpt? It's still a great mystery to me as to how you guys add them to a sculpt if they're not on there already.

Did I mention I have some twisted wire for an armature now? What do we have here, 10 days left? Suppose I can do it? Not likely, but I'd like to give it a shot.

Thanks for the crit, Tim, Dennis and Semoet. Yeah, the dreaded skirt. I think you guys nailed it in several forms. The material is supposed to be the same as the shirt so it should behave similarly but the folds of the skirt seem bulkier. Semoet hit it, too, It just doesn't form right. Like I said earlier it feels more like it drapes on a rod. i should try to make it more like a thinner material which the shirt looks like..Maybe my mistake is that I didn't form the underlying pelvic area..

But who has ever seen Dr. Doom's nether region and lived? Who wants to?


Tim - You definitely have a feel for the female form down pat. I really like how the base body is looking. The face still needs work but I am sure it still early in the stage. So, did I read correctly earlier where you want this to have Famke's face? or will it be comic based?

Semoet - Excellent choice! Great execution. Real Dramatic pose! Wish I could give my stuff more attitude like you did. Love the face.

RiteGuytu - Any progress on your lovely piece?

Dennis - I am leaving the hardest part last. That's me. hey! 10 more days left, that's plenty of time left to do something and go party.

thanks guys . glad you think she looks ok so far. still rough and the face is just a transfer cast- i will spend some time on the faces. hope to do several types(including Tooned) with different hair styles too. both Jean Grey and the Phoenix option.....
downloaded a pic of Famke Janssen and will try that at some point. hope to get the basic body done today by mid afternoon the transferred to wax. i'd like to address the rib areas more and have some definition there in the end...

Jnr, perhaps Doom would wear a heavier material like Velvet. a medieval fighting cloak from the 15th century or Houpenladde would be about right. made from heavy weight velvets and lined with silk to show the wealth and power of the wearer,.
the garment had short Bell sleeves which ajoined the cloak making a kind of 'coat' that was worn over the armor. google some pics and re-enactors sites like 'The Medieval Siege Society' or 'War of the Roses Federation' over in the uk. lots of pics of armor and clothing from the 13th to late 15th Century. .....and you might spot me in all my Armor....

Ritey, more pics seconded here too mate. loved the pose and direction she was going. want to see who she is....

Okay, first off let me apologize for my absence in this JAM. I've been so busy with other stuff, that I just haven't had time to participate in the conversations. Skaar is moving along (slowly but surely), although I haven't worked on him in over a week. To the rest of you guys, my hat's off to your great progress.
Jr., That Doom is looking good, I hope you finish him completely.
Tim, The Phoenix is looking good. I think I know the Drawing you're using as ref... It's a great pose.
Semoet, great job on that Apocalypse sculpt. It's already looking great, so I can only imagine how good it will look when complete.

I think I've been around here long enough that you guys know I'm not great at taking WIP photos. I apologize for that too. However, I did grab a couple shots on the cell phone and I'll post those up now. As you can see in the photos, this is the Sculpey build up. I'm still getting the proportions and anatomy correct before moving into further details like toes, fingers, veins and clothing (oh yeah, and hands - I was bulking up the arms and didn't want to have to sculpt the hands twice, so I'm waiting until the arms are right and then I'll carry those proportions down the hands.

I'm only doing Skaar and I'm editing out the big wing piece on his arm - I think it looks silly. The rest, I'm going to be as true as I can.
